At 325 m above sea level, Mt. Akahage is the highest point in Chiburijima Island. The lookout at the peak of the mountain offers a stunning 360-degree view of the Dozen Caldera, Dogo Island, as well as Mt. Daisen on the distant the Shimane Peninsula. Old stone walls
around the mountain create a quaint and picturesque view of the mountainside. These walls are the remains of walls used to delineate makihata fields. Makihata is a unique rotation farming method that was practiced in the Oki Islands until the mid-20th century.
